Sacramento Pho Adventure

A whole week. I had been waiting for this for a whole week. Dreaming of the flavorful broth, scallion laced, beef-a-licious noodle goodness that is pho. It was the return to the first place I had ever tasted this delight, Houng Lan a small Vietnamese deli/pho/sandwich shop found off the beaten path in a neighborhood nicknamed Little Saigon, Sacramento. What added to the delight was seeing our good friends Shaun, Kristin and Matt.

After painstakingly studying of the menu, I decided on the traditional beef pho. Milan opted for the uber spicy pork pho with the added bonus of blood cake floating in the broth which is a bit of a challenge for most, but adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to the broth that is worth the scaryness. Matt and Shaun ordered the BBQ pork sandwich which is quite tasty.

After the meal we made a short walk over to the Vietnamese super market, which is an adventure all to itself. Milan and I often go there for the huge assortment of ramen and produce but also to look around. A fun and sketchy find was this “Live Mouth Bass.” I think there were some liberties taken with the definition of live…
