An hour and a half Southbound journey in my humble Honda with Milan and two furry companions may be simple and ordinary, but it was a complete delight. It was a short, one day getaway, to leave behind the long list of ‘to-do’s’ and to soak up a Saturday with each other. To sing along badly to our favorite grunge era songs. Does anyone remember ‘Cumbersome’ by Seven Mary Three? No…I’m not surprised, but apparently I know every word…I feel bad for Milan’s ears…
Our little road trip journey was sparked by a need to try Turkish food after watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations on Istanbul (you can see a short clip – here). Sparking an interest in trying new foods is not a hard thing to do…since both of us definitely consider ourselves foodies. We did our research, digging deep into yelp to find the highest rated Turkish food closest to us. So…’close’ was more than an hour’s drive away, but it was worth it to us.
We ended up arriving at Anatolian Table in Rocklin, Ca at 3pm which meant a couple of things…it wasn’t quite lunch or dinner and we were STARVING. After reading the menu we had a bit of a problem….we wanted to order everything. After finally settling on a few key items, we handed our waiter back both our menus when he said, ‘Lets leave one, so you can pick out dessert at the end of your meal.’ The mention of dessert long before appetizers had even arrived made me immediately happy.
And so we took the moment in…Eating, talking and enjoying my favorite things in life – A quiet moment spent with the person I love most, sharing a new experience together.

Cheese Pide on left, and hummus on the right.

This is Lahmacun which is a little ground beef blended with peppers, onions, tomatoes, herbs on a very thin crust. It comes with a medley of vegetables and a wedge of lemon.

And last but certainly not least DESSERT! We ordered the Kunefe, which is shreded fillo dough filled with unsalted cheese, baked and topped with syrup.

Michelle - And was it delicious? It looks yummy! My husband and I went to see Anthony Bourdain talk when he was in Vancouver at the beginning of the month (for his new book tour) and he is every bit as entertaining in person as he is on TV.
admin - Michelle – I am so jealous you got to see Anthony in person!! How fun! The Turkish food was amazing!!
